The Silver Staff by Megan Phillips
Introduction
My name is Andrea Cokley, this is my story. I am always looking for a little bit of adventure in my life. My luck, isn't what you would call great though. I lead a pretty normal and average life. I just turned 16 this summer. It was all smiley faces and happiness but honestly all I saw it as was just another year wasted. Life could be pretty boring. Normally, someone my age would be in school, that is where things get a little crazy. My family isn't all that rich, In all honesty my parents need me at home to help around the house. You might be able to why life is a little boring now. My family lives in a town called Urecules. We live in an apartment building, though, don't get me wrong its a nice place. There is two bedrooms and even a bathtub! The kitchen and dinning room is kinda connected though so it can get cramped sometimes. The town itself is pretty small too. It has a convenience store, with its own gas station, a small restaurant called Little Big Mamma's Tea shop, which doesn't sell tea at all, go figure, and our apartments. So, I guess I have really re-defined boring, right? It was my life though, or at least it was until three weeks after my birthday on July 29th, things began to unravel in my tiny little world.

Chapter One:
July 28th,
Mysterious Meeting My house has seemed more crowded lately. Mom and Dad got into this big fight the other night. It has felt like an oven at home. so I've been trying to stay out of the house recently. I predict the argument will end tonight. Mom is fixing dad's favorite, Lasagna, for dinner. Dad, well he's being the normal guy, flowers and chocolates, it never gets old with them. Guys are so predictable. I had just left the house and was walking to the store. Mom had broke our laundry cord last week and had decided to use my blow-dryer instead. Yeah, that wasn't going to happen. I could already feel my hair starting to friz. I needed my dear hair dryer back. Poor Luise being stuck with my mom drying laundry. Oh, it makes me shiver with the thought. Don't judge me either, I got that blow dryer as a little girl so I had rights to name it. No point changing it now, right? My thoughts started to drift as I walked. I was about to walk inside when someone stepped out in front of m.e My thoughts had been somewhere else so it shocked me. I back-pedaled and started to trip. The girl turned and grabbed my arm at the elbow stopping my fall. I glanced at her catching her pretty sea blue eyes into my amber ones. I started at her for a long time before she finally let me go. The movement made me look down instinctively. "Oh...um, thank you..I guess." I mumbled her way. The girl smirked and crossed her arms. "You should be careful where you are going." she said. As she spoke her auburn hair flipped behind her back. I blinked and watched her. she had really pale skin but there was something about her. "You aren't from around here are you miss. Do, i know you from somewhere?" I asked. The girl turned and looked at me. After she looked me over she turned and without another word walked into the store. I blinked and couldn't help think she was just a little bit weird. I shook my head but the feeling that I knew her somehow. There was something else, I felt a twinge of fear, I was to stubborn to think about. Without another thought of her in my head I walked inside the small store to get my moms cord and I never once saw her. [/blockquote][/blockquote]

(continuation of chapter one)
As I predicted the mini war ended that night. Dad loved his lasagna and mom, being a sucker, totally fell for the roses. I, of course, just sighed and went upstairs while they had their little "love fest". I sat on my bed and ate turning on my radio to listen to the latest Lady Gaga song which happened to be Poker Face. I ate quickly throwing the paper plate into the trash bin by my bed. With a sigh i rolled onto my side tucking myself under the covers of my bed. I laid there listening to my radio as I heard my parents come up and go to bed. All was quiet in the house. As I started drifting off the last thing my mind thought of was the girl I had met. Little did I know she would be the one to change my world.
The next morning was rather easy for me. I woke to a quiet morning, and a quiet house. I numbly got dressed and went downstairs. I reached the kitchen, opening the fridge to find something to munch on. As I grabbed the milk and set it on the counter a note crossed my eye. I blinked slowly before picking it up. Dear Andrea, Me and your father have gone out of town this morning. We will be back for dinner. I have left you some cash, maybe you could go get your bike fixed. Have Fun, Love Mom. Chapter Two:
July 29th,
Friend or Foe I sighed as I put down the note. They were so predictable. I sighed before pocketing the wad of cash into my jean shorts. Cereal and milk forgotten on the table, my mind started to wander yet again like it had all morning. Of course yet again my mind went straight to the young girl I had seen the other day at the store. After a few minutes I looked back at the milk on the table, cap still off and lying beside the jug. I quickly put the cap back on it and put it in the refrigerator once again. Then I walked back to the table grabbing the cereal this time. I turned around and placed it in the cupboard next to the refrigerator. I turned and walked to the backdoor where my set of keys to the house was hanging. I pulled them off the small hook it was on. I quickly ran to the garage and pulled out my bike. It was rusted and the handlebars were so bent that I could barely hold onto them anymore. I sighed to myself, I really did need a new bike, but we couldn’t afford that, so I would just have to settle for a few repairs. It wasn’t like I was prone to danger anyway. I could totally ride to the bike shop without getting hurt…..yeah. That was probably not going to happen, but still I liked danger. I made sure to lock the door and the garage before I peddled off down the small country road. It was the next town over that had a bike store. Erebus was really big, I had gotten lost several times there. It was sad really, I had to call the cops so many times to help me find my way out of the place that they know my name by heart now. On the bright side, I was happy that I was riding my bike again. I remembered riding it so much as a little girl. It also at the same time brought up the painful memory of the accident. I had been fifteen when I had gotten hurt, I busted my bike and lost consciousness. I remember the doctor saying I would probably never walk again. My legs had been busted during the crash. I was put into a wheelchair as soon as I got out of intensive care. I could never ride my bike or be a normal teenager again. People started to treat me differently too. Three weeks after it had happened I hadn't smiled and I felt depressed all the time. My parents constantly fretted over my well being but I shook them off telling them everything was fine when it clearly wasn't. My mother finally made me listen to her one night. She told me the basic things that the doctor's had. That I should never give up on walking again, and she rubbed my legs, smiling at me the whole time. That week went by pretty fast, I had to be honest. It wasn't to soon before I went for a check-up with my doctor. As he examined me I was instantly scared, a look came over his face that made my mind whirl. I couldn't say anything however before he stood back up telling me and my parents that by some miracle, my legs, had started to heal on their own, and that he had never seen anything like it. I was hesitant at first not believing something like this could happen to someone like me. He asked me to stand and.. it scared me, but I did what I was told. I staggered but my legs did feel fine, no better than fine. I was shocked myself. It was after that I became the miracle child. I smiled, tears of joy apparent on both my own and my parents faces. I missed being able to ride my bike, I swore to myself that I would ride a whole lot more after I got it fixed. I knew that I had to be close to the city now, I had been peddling for what seemed like ages. It would be my luck that I was about five minutes away. It was then that I saw something move in the forest beside me. It freaked me out slightly and I flinched away from the movement. I had never been the type for forest's anyway. I laughed at myself however, it was probably just some small forest animal that was moving up a tree. How stupid was I, to be frightened over some squirrel or bunny. The real problem was that I didn't see the small rock that came at the front tire of my bike. It got caught just in the right spot of my wheel causing my bike to stop immediately. Unexpecting the stop, my body fell right over the handle bars before I felt the cement hit my fragile body. I couldn't feel a lot of the places on my body, and my hands felt sticky. Right then, my mind didn't get the hint that the sticky feeling was my own blood. I was just consumed by the pain I felt to really concern myself with anything else. Out of sure will I tried to get myself off the ground. I knew staying here wouldn't help me, but my attempts were futile and my body fell right back down from where it had been. I knew that my vision was coming in an out as well which wasn't helping the massive headache I had from the pain my mind was receiving from my body. I thought I saw something like a shadow moving towards me but I was so dizzy and in so much pain I didn't know if it was real. I tried to keep my eyes open and locked on the shadow but that just wasn't going to happen. My head fell against one of my torn up arms and my eyes closed. I didn't know what was going to happen right then, but I was glad to pass out, the pain going away only then. I slept easily something I didn't do often, even though my body was going through something I couldn't comprehend. The last thing my mind revolved around was the danger I could be in and if anyone would find me on the road before it was to late. But that too, faded as I lost consciousness. ______________________________ When I woke I could tell my body was stiff. I felt like crying to be honest with myself. The pain bit at me like snakes toying with their prey deciding not to inject their deadly poison just yet. That was when I realized that my vision had gotten a little better. I blinked clearing the rest of it as the haze seemed to fall away. As I saw the place I was just a little bit scared and confused. It looked like it belonged in a scary movie. Abandoned, and torn apart, with dust just about everywhere and furniture turned upside down and torn apart. The only light in the entire place came from a crack in the ceiling.
